Treatment Of Rosacea - Psoriasis & Skin Clinic - Gosford, Central Coast
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects the central face, leading to persistent redness, visible blood vessels, flushing, sensitivity, and sometimes acne-like bumps or eye irritation.
It often follows a pattern of flares and remissions and is most common in adults aged 30–60. Modern research shows rosacea involves abnormalities in the body’s immune system, neurovascular dysregulation, and an impaired skin barrier, making the skin unusually reactive to internal and external triggers.
-
Several biological and environmental factors can activate or worsen rosacea.
Vascular over reactivity (blood vessels dilate easily)
Overgrowth of Demodex mites
Impaired skin barrier causes increased sensitivity
Overactive innate immunity may create inflammation & bumps
-
These internal factors initiate the inflammatory cycle before external, or lifestyle factors worsen symptoms.
Genetic predisposition
Overactive immune pathways
Neurovascular hypersensitivity leading to easy flushing
Temperature dysregulation
Hormonal influences
-
Secondary triggers do not cause rosacea but can significantly exacerbate it in individuals with underlying susceptibility.
These may worsen existing rosacea:
Heat, sun, wind, humidity changes
Alcohol (especially red wine)
Spicy foods & hot drinks
Histamine-rich foods
Stress & vigorous exercise
Harsh skincare: fragrance, alcohol, exfoliants
Chemical or heat exposure at work
-
Rosacea includes several subtypes.
· Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea involves persistent facial redness and visible vessels.
· Papulopustular rosacea—often called acne rosacea—causes pustules and inflamed bumps.
· Phymatous rosacea leads to skin thickening, most commonly on the nose (rhinophyma).
· Ocular rosacea affects the eyes, causing irritation, dryness, redness, and light sensitivity.
Many patients experience overlapping features, and the condition may evolve over time.

Take Control of your Rosacea
Treating rosacea requires a comprehensive approach that addresses primary and secondary triggers both internally and externally.
My approach is straightforward, offering an incremental holistic approach that is customised for the personalised treatment of your skin condition
My approach is based on Prof. Tirant’s method, which has been used by practitioners around Australia and Europe for a number of years, achieving very significant treatment success rates.
I have further developed on this method, to
1. Address the triggers which activate and exacerbate episodes (diet, hormonal, stress and lifestyle-related)
2. Treat the symptoms with topical application to relieve physical symptoms from Professor Michael Tirants' range
3. Support the body internally with targeted natural-based “Practitioner Only” medicines
4. Establish long-term solutions to help patients manage their conditions
My Method
-
Using differential diagnosis techniques, I assess your skin's condition
-
I identify the primary triggers that initiated your condition.
I also attempt to identify all the secondary triggers that exacerbate your condition.
These may be present in your environment or related to your lifestyle and / or your diet.
-
I develop a customised treatment plan to bring your skin condition symptoms under control.
There are usually a number of variants in an individual's skin conditions.
As a result, I can have vastly different treatment plans for people suffering from the same condition.
-
I treat your symptoms and address your triggers to help you work towards a long term remission of your skin complaint.
-
I develop a maintenance program to support you in achieving long term remission, if required.
